How to make your stream look better

No matter what kind of streamer you are, make your stream look better; whether you’re just getting started or you’ve been at it for years, it can be difficult to determine the best way to look good on camera. That’s why we reached out to some of the most popular gamers and streamers in the business to ask how they make their streams look better, and they were happy to share their secrets with us!

This article will cover five simple ways to improve your stream and make it look great without breaking the bank.

Choose a Good Background

When you’re live streaming, your background is one of the most important aspects of your stream. You want something that looks good and helps you stand out from other streams but isn’t distracting or too loud.

For example, if you’re playing a game with dark graphics like League of Legends or Counter-Strike, consider using black as your background color, so it doesn’t compete with what you’re showing on the screen. If you have any logo or brand image for your channel, it can be helpful to overlay that over part of your background image so viewers know where they are when they visit your page.

Place the Camera Correctly

Place the Camera Correctly

Once you’ve figured your background out, make sure you place your camera correctly. The optimal distance will vary depending on how big your monitor is and how far away you sit from it. Generally speaking, try to position yourself at least a few feet back from your monitor (or whatever surface area you’re capturing). This gives viewers a better perspective and makes everything look more professional.

Use Lighting Wisely

Whether or not you plan to broadcast yourself via webcam while streaming, lighting plays an important role in ensuring people can see who’s behind all those pixels. Keep ambient light sources at bay by placing yourself near a windowless wall or hanging up some thick curtains—and don’t forget about LED lights!

Use Overlay Graphics

Having a solid set of graphics can help bring your stream together. Text overlays, logos, and custom images will help establish a unique identity for your channel and give you another way to express yourself visually. There are tons of free online resources for creating these kinds of assets—even sites dedicated solely to helping gamers do that.

Be Yourself

Above all else, remember that being genuine is what matters most when streaming video games online. People tune into live streams because they want authentic experiences—not contrived ones. Be honest about who you are and why you play games; let people get to know you through your gameplay; then relax and have fun!
